At the entrance of every temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is engraved "Holiness to the Lord -- The House of the Lord."

Anciently, the word “holy” referred to something that was set apart for a sacred purpose. In other words, holy temples are sacred places reserved for worshiping God and continuing our process to becoming holy.

The temples of this Church are precisely as proclaimed. These sacred buildings are built for our use, and within their walls sacred and saving ordinances are performed. But there should be no doubt as to whose house it really is. By requiring exacting standards of construction down to the smallest of details, we not only show our love and respect for the Lord Jesus Christ, but we also hold out to all observers that we honor and worship Him whose house it is.

Church members who enter an LDS temple change in dressing rooms from their everyday clothes into white clothing before participating in temple services. This change of clothing serves as a reminder that patrons are temporarily leaving the world behind and entering a holy place.

Wearing white clothing symbolizes cleanliness and purity through Jesus Christ, while being dressed alike in the temple creates a sense of unity and equality. Prophets have promised that as we do temple work, our lives will be filled with peace and purpose.

Temple preparation isn't just a class we take before entering the temple. We can always prepare ourselves to learn before each visit. Before every temple visit, try to have a question in mind about the gospel, about your life, or about the ordinances, and ask Heavenly Father to help you recognize the voice of the Spirit to understand what He wants to teach you. Preparing beforehand always helps to invite a spirit of learning in the temple. And when we let go of the things of the world within the temple and seek to hear Him, we can open our hearts to the Spirit and learn in whatever ways He wants to teach us.

As we learn in the temple, we might receive an increased understanding of ordinances and covenants, a deepened testimony, promptings, feelings of comfort, and more. Heavenly Father wants us to have personal learning experiences in the temple and to be open to the many ways we can receive knowledge in His house.

As Mary Magdalene and her companions mournfully approached the Garden Tomb, two angels appeared to them and shared the clarion call of all Christianity:

"Why seek ye the living among the dead?"

"He is not here, but is risen" (Luke 24:5-6).

This Easter season we also joyfully testify of this same eternal truth—Jesus Christ is risen. He lives!

The Savior of the world was crucified and, on the third day, rose from the dead, "the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Corinthians 15:20). His Resurrection allows all to be resurrected, and through His grace, we can find peace "which passeth all understanding" (Philippians 4:7) and "be perfected in him" (Moroni 10:32).

We invite each of you during this Easter season to "seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written" (Ether 12:41). As you do so, we testify that your Easter celebrations can strengthen your own faith and testimony that "death is conquered; man is free. Christ has won the victory" ("He Is Risen!" Hymns, no. 199).

Many of life's greatest joys are found in a loving family. In our Heavenly Father's plan of happiness, a husband and wife can be together forever. The authority to unite families forever is called the sealing power. It is the same power that Jesus gave to His Apostles during His ministry on earth (Matthew 16:19). An eternal marriage is therefore called a sealing. Children born or adopted into such eternal marriages can also be sealed to their families forever.

Unlike marriages that last only "until death do you part," temple sealings ensure that death cannot separate loved ones. For marriages to continue after death, they must be sealed in the right place and with the right authority.
